The Junior League of Lancaster PA, Inc. (JLL) engages dynamic women in our community. We work hard to promote fundraisers and projects that are Junior League specific and we work hard to orchestrate other non-profit events and advocacy awareness. This year, one of our goals for the Junior League of Lancaster Blog is to bridge a communication with the Lancaster community about our JLL member efforts. On September 17, 2011 The American Cancer Society will host their 19th anniversary black tie gala, the Legacy Ball, held at Lancaster Country Club. This event has raised over 1.2 million dollars for the Lancaster County community. With The American Cancer Society’s “Celebrate More Birthday Campaign,” the committee felt the theme “Joie de Vivre” French for the joy of life would be more than fitting. Chairing the event is Active League Member Katie Keister, along with fellow League members Nicole Clair, Stephanie Owens, Kim Briner, Kate Wood, and Sustainer Pati Frey, who has generously supported the cause.
The Legacy Ball is a truly special event because it celebrates the survivors and raises money for our local American Cancer Society chapter to enable them to continue to serve thousands of people in our community with services. Among the services are the Look Good, Feel Better program, the wig bank, the Hope Lodge, financial and emotions support for those living with disease, as well as, many other programs.
The importance of getting involved on a local level is significant because cancer knows no specific demographic. It affects people and children of all ages, race, culture, and gender. Each year science makes great strides in research and one day this will be a very curable disease. You’re local American Cancer Society is located at 314 Good Drive Lancaster, PA. Should you ever wish to volunteer for any of their amazing programs they can be reached at (717)397-3745. By getting involved in your local American Cancer Society you can help celebrate more birthdays.
