The Junior League of Lancaster's Members Support Lancaster Day Care Center's Night On The Town Benefit

Each year the Lancaster Day Care Center Board of Directors sponsors Night on the Town. The evening begins at 5:00PM and features a silent auction and reception at the Lancaster Country Club followed by dinner in the private homes of friends of the Center. This year the event is scheduled for November 5th and is expected to draw well over 500 attendees who support our organization. The silent auction features over 300 incredible auctions items, an exciting raffle, music filled sign-up party and much much more. Tickets to the event as well as raffle tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at http://www.ldcc.org/node/38.

The Lancaster Day Care Center (LDCC) is celebrating 96 years of service to the Lancaster community. Even over time, the core principles of the LDCC have remained consistent. We provide daily care for 100 children 8 weeks old to kindergarten age. As in the beginning, we continue to base family fees on income level and family size. The difference between what a family is able to pay and the actual cost of care is subsidized in part by the United Way, generous grants, private contributions and fund raising activities such as Night on the Town.

Lancaster Day Care Center was established in 1915 (as the Lancaster Day Nursery) and was incorporated in 1939. LDCC provides affordable, high quality care for children, ages six weeks until they enter full day kindergarten, serving low-income working parents or parents who are enrolled in a full time job training or educational program. We have been located in one of Lancaster’s most depressed neighborhoods for 92 years. At any given time, our total enrollment is 100 children; however over the course of a year, we serve as many as 180 children due to changing enrollment because of a transient low-income population. Lancaster Day Care Center is a Keystone STAR 4 facility, which is the highest quality level. The high-quality of service is directly related to the caring stable child care staff employed at the Center. The yearly child care staff turnover rate for centers in Lancaster County is around 36%. Lancaster Day Care Center has had an average of less than 3% turnover rate over the past 5 years. Ninety-five percent of our direct care giving staff either have degrees (CDA.AA, BS) or are presently pursuing degrees in education.

Night on the Town is the Center’s largest fundraising event. The format of the event is an elegant cocktail party featuring a silent auction, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from 5:00PM until about 8:00PM at the Lancaster Country Club. We have hundreds of amazing auction items to bid on including one of a kind sports collectors items, passes to national sporting events including the Tiger Woods AT&T Classic at Congressional, vacation packages to domestic and international destinations, luxury goods including fine jewelry and apparel, and items and packages found only at Night on the Town including progressive dinners hosted by friends of the Center, wine tastings, excursions for the adventurous and private parties. Vanscoy Maurer & Bash as well as Vintage Sports Memorabilia provide beautiful fine jewelry and unique sports items to please both our men and women guests. This year we are thrilled to be offering a sign-up party unique to Night on the Town hosted by our current President of the Board, Suzanne Woodard and her husband Dr. Chris Woodard and Dr. and Mrs. Fred Chairsell. The party, Red White and The Blues will celebrate the spirit of summer and will feature Lancaster’s own blues group Blue Light Special along with delicious New Orleans influenced food and drink. Those looking to try their luck while also supporting the Lancaster Day Care Center will love our incredible raffle! This year’s first prize winner will receive $10,000 cash! Second and third prizes are just as exciting with a summer lease on a BMW convertible donated by Faulkner BMW or a beautiful David Yurman bracelet donated by Vanscoy Maurer and Bash Diamond Jewelers. Tickets are $100 each and can be purchased through the center or on our website. Only 300 tickets will be sold, what incredible odds!

Following the event at the Lancaster Country Club, guests are invited back to the homes of the supporters of The Lancaster Day Care Center for drinks and dinner. Each host and hostess features their own unique style at their gathering. Dinners may be a formal sit-down affair or a casual buffet. They may be as large as 75+ guests or smaller more intimate affairs. Each dinner reflects the style and personality of the hosts and the food and drink served is planned by the hosts. This year we are offering two new dinner choices, guests may choose an elegant dinner at Bent Creek Country Club or The Hamilton Club. The dinners following are a wonderful way to wrap up the Night on the Town and celebrate the success of the Lancaster Day Care Center while relishing on the items won at the silent auction.
